Surprise! The Kentucky men’s basketball program is set to host its annual Pro Day this evening — but it won’t be the same high-profile event we’ve seen in recent years. In fact, the 2022 edition of UK Pro Day won’t be televised at all.

Instead, it will be an in-depth look for the 30 NBA teams in attendance, head coach John Calipari says. Without television coverage and the publicity that comes with a live broadcast, Kentucky will be able to get creative in what it shows the scouts.

“Today is our Pro Day and multiple reps from all 30 NBA teams will be here,” Calipari announced Sunday morning. “It is not televised, which allows us to do some things the scouts have been asking for us to do. Our guys are in great shape and ready to go!

That doesn’t mean there won’t be media coverage at all. Select Kentucky media members will be in attendance, as will ESPN to provide some all-access content for fans to enjoy a little later.

“ESPN is here putting together some all-access content with us, as well as covering the Pro Day, so our fans should get a really unique look behind the scenes,” Calipari added. “This should be a home run for our kids and our program.”

The lack of television coverage isn’t the only bad news Calipari brought Sunday morning. He also added that CJ Fredrick is dealing with a minor ankle injury and will not participate this afternoon. It’s unfortunate timing, as scouts will not be able to see his elite shot-making on full display in the private evaluation.

Still, though, it’s a minor issue with no long-term impact on his play.

“Bad news is CJ Fredrick, who has been playing as well as anyone – making shots, low turnovers, great defensive presence – turned his ankle and is out for a few days,” Calipari said. “Unfortunately, the scouts won’t be able to see him and the incredible progress he’s made. Happy it’s not serious!”

Pro Day is set to begin this afternoon at 5 PM ET with coverage on the website to follow.

From there, Big Blue Madness is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. ET.

Basketball season is here, BBN.
