The in-person visits continue for Mark Pope and the Kentucky coaching staff, making their rounds to see some of the program’s top recruiting targets on Wednesday. First, it was four-star point guard Tay Kinney — a high school teammate of UK signee Jasper Johnson at Overtime Elite — out of Newport, KY. That stop was in Atlanta, though, hanging out with the RWE standout in Atlanta, home of OTE.

Pope was joined by assistant coaches Cody Fueger and Jason Hart, watching Kinney highlights and breaking down film on the living room TV.

“Thank you (Mark Pope, Jason Hart and Cody Fueger) for the in home visit!!” Kinney shared.

Up next? 2026 five-star shooting guard Caleb Holt in nearby Loganville, GA. The trio of coaches went straight from Kinney to the 6-5 prospect ranked No. 4 in his class overall and No. 1 at his position.

“Appreciate yall for coming through,” he wrote.

Kentucky first extended an offer to the five-star back in July of 2024, followed by back-to-back follow-up visits from the staff on Sept. 4 and Sept. 18 — clearly emerging as one of the top targets in the class for the Wildcats.

Holt joins Kinney, five-star guards Brandon McCoy, Jason Crowe Jr., Jordan Smith, Ikenna Alozie, five-star wings Tajh Ariza and Anthony Thompson and five-star forwards Tyran Stokes and Miikaa Muurinen among players holding early offers from Kentucky in the rising senior class.

Alvin Brooks III meets with Austin Goosby

We know of three recruiting coaches on the trail Wednesday, but what about the fourth? While the others were in Georgia, the great white shark himself traveled down to Texas to check out a personal favorite of his in four-star wing Austin Goosby of Melissa High School.

The school’s basketball account thanked the Kentucky associate head coach for stopping by at practice early Wednesday morning.

“Shoutout to (Alvin Brooks III) from (Kentucky) for coming in to check out our practice this morning,” the school wrote. “Appreciate you coming through and you’re always welcome at the M!”

Goosby does not hold an offer from the Wildcats, but Kentucky — Brooks, in particular — have kept a close eye on him with several in-person visits over the last year. He is rated as the No. 27 overall prospect and No. 12 small forward in 2026.

“Yes sir! Coach Brooks was great and coach Pope will be in town sometime this spring or summer!!!” his father, Michael Goosby, told Jacob Polacheck of KSR+ on Wednesday.

Texas, BYU, Florida State, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, SMU and Texas A&M are among the other schools to extend scholarship offers.

The coaching visits come ahead of recruiting season with AAU basketball officially underway, the first Nike EYBL session coming this weekend in Mesa, AZ from April 25-27 while the adidas 3SSB schedule begins May 2-4 in Ladera Ranch, CA and Bryan, TX — plus UA Next and Puma PRO 16 circuits also ramping up. There will be three live periods this cycle: May 16-18, July 10-13 and July 18-20.

The grind never stops for Kentucky basketball.
