Kentucky Men's Soccer Earns Shutout on Senior Night

No. 2 Kentucky Men’s Soccer faced fellow Sun Belt Conference opponent, Old Dominion, on Friday night at The Bell Soccer Complex in Lexington, KY. The match-up marked the final regular season home game for UK and their Senior Night.
Senior Night Brings Excitement
The ‘Cats celebrated Senior Night by honoring six players during the festivities prior to kick-off.
It started out slow for both teams, but the ‘Cats were able to find the back of the net in the 15’ and go up by one. Seniors Nick Gutmann and Robert Screen came out strong on their final regular season home game, finding sophomore Casper Grening for the goal.
Slow Heading Into Half
Although UK found a spark early in the first half, they struggled to find their sweet spot on the net. They went into the locker room at halftime still with a lead of 1-0.
Atmosphere is Electric
As the players came back out from the locker room following halftime, Grove Street Party and Senior Night vibes made the atmosphere electric.
Kentucky came out strong and had multiple shots on goal, but still could not find much of the net early on in the second half.

The ‘Cats had some good looks from the corner, but failed to execute.
Big Showing from Seniors
Finally, Kentucky was able to find some net and in the 55′ Gutmann had another assist to fellow senior, Eythor Bjorgolfsson. Gutmann showed out for the final regular season home match of his career, ending with two assists on the night.
UK remained persistent and maintained possession of the ball throughout the rest of the match, but did not score again after the one in the 55′.
‘Cats Stay Undefeated and Clinch Spot in Tourney
Kentucky finished out the match with a two-to-nothing victory over the Old Dominion Monarchs. They remain undefeated on the season with this shutout win.
Nationally ranked No. 2 Kentucky travels to Columbia, South Carolina to face another fellow Sun Belt opponent, the Gamecocks of South Carolina, on Tuesday, November 1st at 7 pm. This will be the Wildcats’ final regular season match.
With their win over Old Dominion, the ‘Cats have also clinched a spot to host the first two rounds of the Sun Belt Men’s Soccer Conference Championship. The final seeding for the tournament will be posted following the end of the regular season on November 1st.
