After finishing as the national runner-up a year ago, Kentucky men’s tennis is looking to go on a revenge run.

On Monday night, the 2023 NCAA Men’s Tennis Tournament field was announced and the Wildcats were tabbed as the No. 4 overall seed among a field of 64 teams. Kentucky will host Northwestern, UCLA, and Presbyterian to open up tournament action, which begins this weekend right here in Lexington, KY at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Center.

Up first for UK is Presbyterian College on Friday, May 5 at 1:00 p.m. EST.

Kentucky finished the regular season with a 24-4 record, including a 12-1 mark at home and a 9-3 mark in the SEC. The Wildcats won its first SEC Tournament championship since 1992 and just the second in program history by beating the regular season league champion Georgia Bulldogs. Now, head coach Cedric Kauffmann will look to lead his group back to the NCAA national championship for the second straight year — hopefully with a different end result.

Check out this weekend’s schedule. Saturday’s winner will advance to play in next weekend’s Super Regionals.

Friday, May 5

Match 1: 10 a.m. ET – Northwestern vs. UCLA
Match 2: 1 p.m. ET – Presbyterian vs. (4) Kentucky

Saturday, May 6

1 p.m. ET – Winner of Match 1 vs. Winner of Match 2

The SEC is well-represented in this year’s tournament field, with five teams earning Top 16 seeds and hosting privileges for the first two rounds: Kentucky (4), Georgia (6), Tennessee (8), South Carolina (9), and Mississippi State (15). In total, 10 SEC squads — the most of any conference in the country — will compete in the tournament with Auburn, Ole Miss, LSU, Texas A&M, and Florida also joining in on the fun.

UK’s only intraconference losses this season came against South Carolina (4-3; March 2), Georgia (5-2, March 31), and Tennessee (4-0; April 2). However, the ‘Cats exacted revenge on both Georgia and Tennessee during the SEC Tournament. Kentucky’s lone out-of-conference loss came at the hands of TCU (4-2) back on Feb. 19. The Horned Frogs are the No. 2 overall seed in this year’s bracket.
