For years, the haters criticized the state of Kentucky for not producing enough high-end football talent. That sentiment was only partially true. Quality is not so much of a problem as it is quantity, and I’m here to tell you there are plenty of high-quality football players in the Commonwealth moving forward.

Rivals released its first Top 100 rankings for the 2028 recruiting class. These are players who are about to begin their sophomore year of high school. Three Louisville natives are featured in this Top 100 list, including one in the Top 10.

Kellan Hall is a 6-foot-4, 255-pound defensive lineman from Christian Academy-Louisville (CAL). During his freshman year, he tallied 61 tackles and 21 TFLs for a team that won its third straight Class 3A State Title.

Rivals ranks Hall as the No. 7 overall player in the 2028 recruiting class. Cody Bellaire, a National Scout for Rivals, believes the future is bright for the Kentucky native.

“Ultra-productive two-way monster along the offensive and defensive fronts,” writes Bellaire. “Tallied over 20 tackles-for-loss on the defensive side of the line of scrimmage and has tremendous power at the point of attack. Very smooth mover with excellent get off at the line of scrimmage that plays with low pad level for a prospect standing in at 6-foot-4. Has all the physical tools to excel on either side of the line of scrimmage, but projects to be a dominant interior defensive prospect at the next level.”

The biggest players in the sport have set up visits for Hall this fall. He’ll attend the Ohio State-Texas game in week one. Steve Wiltfong reports Hall will travel to Oklahoma the following week when they host Michigan. He’s also planning trips to LSU, Georgia, and Tennessee.

There are also plenty of connections to his hometown school. He’s coached by Hunter Cantwell, who spent most of his career at Louisville as Brian Brohm’s backup QB. Hall works out at Aspirations Gym with Chris Vaughn, a former Louisville Cardinal whose relationship with Vince Marrow sent a couple of his clients to Kentucky over the last decade.

Other Kentucky Natives in the Rivals 2028 Top 100

For years, Atherton High School wasn’t much more than a punching bag for the largest schools in the city of Louisville. That’s no longer the case, far from it.

Grayden Reid checks in at No. 40 in the Rivals 2028 Top 100. A four-star prospect, Reid is the fourth-ranked safety in the sophomore class and the No. 2 player in the state of Kentucky. He plays alongside another Power Four recruit, Garyon Hobbs, who’s a year older in the 2027 recruiting class. There’s also an Atherton defensive lineman to keep an eye in the 2027 class, Zai’Vion Meads. All three currently have offers from Kentucky.

One more Louisville native cracked the 2028 Top 100. Man Robinson recently moved from Kentucky to Bradenton, FL, to compete with national powerhouse IMG Academy. The four-star cornerback is the No. 53 player in his recruiting class and has a busy schedule this fall. He has trips planned to Florida State, Miami, Notre Dame, Georgia, Tennessee, Ohio State, SMU, Florida, and Louisville.
