With SEC play underway, it’s time to start keeping track of Kentucky’s NCAA Tournament resume, which got a nice boost with the win over Florida. The Cats were No. 16 in the NET Rankings entering Saturday’s contest. On Sunday, the Cats rose to No. 11; they’re down one spot today to No. 12. That’s 12 spots higher than they were just eight days ago (No. 24).

Every Monday until Selection Sunday, we’ll be looking at Kentucky’s team sheet, which the Selection Committee will use as it determines the Cats’ seed in the NCAA Tournament. The victory over Florida brought Kentucky’s Quad 1 record to 3-2. The Cats have 13 Quad 1 games remaining, which is further proof of the strength of the league. To break it down even further, nine of those 13 games are in Quad 1A, considered the best of the best when it comes to NCAA Tournament resumes.

Let’s break it all down.

  • Quad 1: 3-2
    • Quad 1A: 3-1
    • Quad 1B: 0-1
  • Quad 2: 2-0
  • Quad 3: 1-0

Team Sheet Notes

— As mentioned, Kentucky has 18 Quad 1 games this season, a record since the NET Rankings started in the 2018-19 season. The SEC really does just mean more this season, so that’s not even the most in the league. Auburn has 20 Quad 1 games on its schedule right now, and the Tigers are 6-1 in Quad 1 thus far. That’s pretty freaking good. Kentucky and Alabama are tied for second with 18 Quad 1 games and a matching 3-2 record in the ones they’ve played thus far.

Quad 1 Games (Quad 1 record)

  • Auburn: 20 (6-1)
  • Kentucky: 18 (3-2)
  • Alabama: 18 (3-2)
  • Ole Miss: 17 (2-2)
  • Tennessee: 16 (3-0)
  • Mississippi State: 16 (3-0)
  • Oklahoma: 16 (3-1)
  • Missouri: 16 (1-3)
  • LSU: 16 (0-2)
  • South Carolina: 16 (0-2)
  • Texas A&M: 15 (3-1)
  • Arkansas: 15 (1-3)
  • Texas: 15 (0-3)
  • Vanderbilt: 14 (1-0)
  • Georgia: 14 (1-2)
  • Florida: 12 (1-1)

Kentucky could soon have 19 Quad 1 games. Vanderbilt is No. 31 in the NET Rankings. If the ‘Dores rise even one spot to No. 30, the matchup at Rupp Arena on Feb. 19 will move from Quad 2 to Quad 1.

— Both of Kentucky’s road games are big this week, the trip to Starkville especially. Mississippi State is 13-1 this season, the lone loss coming to Butler in the Arizona Tip-Off. Chris Jans’ squad beat South Carolina by 35 on Saturday. They haven’t faced a ton of good teams yet (their best wins are at Memphis and vs. Pitt), but that game will be very tough.

— Tennessee may be No. 1 in the AP Poll, but Auburn is No. 1 in the NET, followed by Duke and the Vols. The ACC is pretty weak this season, so as long as the Blue Devils don’t stumble, they’ll be high in the NET all year, which makes Kentucky’s victory over them in the Champions Classic even more impressive.

The Road Ahead

Kentucky has two Quad 1A opportunities this week with the road trips to Georgia and Mississippi State. If the Bulldogs fall below No. 40 in the NET, that game will move down to Quad 1B.
