Kentucky had a really, really good season with Kenny Brooks at the helm last year. He led the program to unprecedented levels of success in his first year in Lexington, and the expectation is that the program will only continue to ascend under his leadership.

The Cats recently came in at No. 18 in On3’s Women’s Basketball Preseason Top 25 rankings. And for all of the Louisville haters out there, that’s one spot above the Cards.

Here is the full Top 25:

  1. South Carolina
  2. UConn
  3. Texas
  4. UCLA
  5. LSU
  6. Duke
  7. Tennessee
  8. Oklahoma
  9. North Carolina
  10. Michigan
  11. NC State
  12. Michigan State
  13. Iowa State
  14. Vanderbilt
  15. Washington
  16. Iowa
  17. Minnesota
  18. Kentucky
  19. Louisville
  20. TCU
  21. Ohio State
  22. Ole Miss
  23. Kansas State
  24. Maryland
  25. Notre Dame

There are five SEC teams in the top eight alone, with eight total SEC teams being listed in the rankings. By those metrics, Kentucky would be projected to finish seventh in the SEC — one spot higher than what folks thought heading into last season.

After finishing fourth in the conference last year, seventh feels a bit low, but hey, being underestimated sure worked for them last year.

Kentucky returns its main core of Teonni Key, Clara Strack and Amelia Hassett — the triplets — also getting Jordan Obi and Dominika Paurová back from injury. Plus, Brooks reeled in all-conference players in Tonie Morgan, Josie Gilvin and Asia Boone to pair with freshmen Kaelyn Carroll and Elsa Vadfors.

Losing Georgia Amoore and Dazia Lawrence sucks (a lot), but Kentucky brought in a ton of talent that’ll have them up there with some of the best teams in the country.
