Kentucky No. 5 in AP Poll following win over Kansas
As expected, Kentucky made a major jump in the AP Poll following Saturday’s beatdown in Lawrence. The Cats are No. 5 in the new Top 25, up from No. 12 last week. Kansas, previously No. 5, is down to No. 10. So, not only did the Cats whip the Jayhawks in their own gym, they took their AP ranking too. You love to see it.
Auburn is still the No. 1 team in the country, followed by Gonzaga, UCLA, and Purdue. Two other SEC teams are ranked: Tennessee at No. 22 and LSU at No. 25. Alabama, Saturday’s opponent, is the first team out, receiving 97 votes. Arkansas received 7 votes, making them No. 33.

If you’re curious, this is Kentucky’s highest ranking in the AP Poll since the 2019-20 team was No. 1 on Nov. 11, 2019. If you look at the vote breakdown, the Cats were ranked as high as No. 3 by ten writers, including Jeff Borzello and Seth Davis. James Crepea of The Oregonian must not have seen the Kansas game; he has the Cats at No. 14:
