Kentucky no longer receiving votes in AP Poll

Jack PIlgrimby:Jack Pilgrim09/08/24

Kentucky put itself in outside position to make a jump into the AP Poll following its 31-0 win over Southern Miss in the opener, receiving votes to come in tied for No. 42 overall. It was two spots lower than where they were in the official Preseason AP Poll, but a statement SEC win over South Carolina would have done wonders for national perception. Roll against the Gamecocks and you potentially sneak in or sit just outside the top 25, at the very least.

What happens if you get rolled? Well, you get laughed at by voters, losing the few who believed in you to open the season. That was the case in the Week 3 update of the AP Poll, Kentucky falling outside the Others Receiving Votes category. Replacing the Cats? You guessed it: the Gamecocks, who received 10 votes this week.

Elsewhere, six other SEC foes make up the top seven in the rankings — four being future opponents for Kentucky this season. Georgia leads the way at No. 1 overall, followed by Texas at No. 2, Alabama at No. 4, Ole Miss at No. 5, Missouri at No. 6 and Tennessee at No. 7. The Wildcats will take on the Bulldogs this week before taking on the Longhorns, Rebels and Volunteers down the road.

And yes, the Louisville Cardinals are still sticking around, coming in at No. 19 overall this week.
