Kentucky no longer recruiting Baylor Scheierman
If South Dakota State star Baylor Scheierman plays college basketball next season, it will not be at Kentucky. According to Jonathan Givony, Scheierman is down to Arkansas, Clemson, Creighton, Duke, and Nebraska. He has also declared for the NBA Draft. A decision is expected in the next week.
Kentucky reached out to Scheierman when he entered the transfer portal last week and made his initial list of ten schools; however, sources tell KSR’s Jack Pilgrim the staff cut ties with the 6’6″ shooting guard when he and his agent made their NIL demands known. Scheierman is represented by NEXT Sports Agency, which recently negotiated Nijel Pack‘s two-year, $800,000 NIL deal with Florida businessman John Ruiz when Pack transferred from Kansas State to Miami. NEXT Sports Agency also represents Miami guard Isaiah Wong, who threatened to enter the transfer portal if his NIL compensation wasn’t increased. Wong ultimately backtracked and is leaving the option to return to Miami open if he withdraws from the NBA Draft.
From here, Kentucky will look elsewhere to add depth on the wing. On Thursday, the Cats signed Illinois State transfer Antonio Reeves. Reeves led Illinois State in scoring as a junior, averaging 20.1 points on 46.9% from the field, 39.0% from three, and 81.8% from the line to go with 3.5 rebounds and 1.1 steals per contest.
