Kentucky Offense Shines Bright During Cold 2022 Spring Football Game
The Kentucky offense came out hot on a cold Saturday afternoon at Kroger Field. To quote Will Levis, “The cold never bothered us anyway.”
On the opening drive of the game Levis marched the Wildcats 65 yards down the field in only eight plays to score a touchdown, a 8-yard screen pass to Chris Rodriguez. The only drive of the day for UK’s star running back, he caught two passes for 21 yards and rushed for 11 yards on two carries.
The first Kentucky football spring game at Kroger Field since 2019, it did not feel like spring. An hour before kickoff snow and sleet covered the turf. Even so, a few thousand fans conquered the elements to watch Rich Scangarello’s offense move the ball down the field.

Levis completed 7-of-8 passes for 98 yards and two touchdowns in his only two scoring drives. His second touchdown pass was a dart to true freshman Dane Key, who made more than one promising play throughout the Blue/White scrimmage. Virginia Tech transfer Tayvion Robinson lived up to the lofty billing by gaining yards after the catch. His first reception was a seven-yard catch that turned into 24. He made another nice move a few plays later to move the sticks, ultimately finishing the day with three catches for 42 yards.
Instead of splitting the roster in two, it was a true offense scrimmage pitting the offense vs. the defense. Brad White’s unit was not rewarded with points, but they still had a few noteworthy moments. Most of them came from redshirt freshman Jordan Lovett. The North Hardin product was a game-wrecker, forcing a fumble, breaking up two passes and picking up a quarterback hurry, while leading the Cats with nine tackles.
