Most eyes around the world of college football are on the transfer portal. People forget that it’s also spatula season. Programs are celebrating a Merry Flipmas just ahead of the Early Signing Period. Unfortunately, one program’s gain might be a loss for the Kentucky Wildcats.

Jadon LaFontant might have his sights set elsewhere. The word on the street Monday afternoon is the three-star offensive lineman from Connecticut is reconsidering his pledge to Kentucky. Three experts at 247 Sports have submitted picks predicting LaFontant will ultimately end up at Boston College. One of those experts is Steve Wiltfong. That man rarely misses. The Eagles are now the favorite to land LaFontant, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM). Yikes.

LaFontant is a mid three-star talent from New Greenwich, CT that was recruited to Kentucky by Liam Coen, Scott Woodward and Zach Yenser. He passed the eye test during an official visit over the summer and committed not long after leaving Lexington.

Is LaFontant the highest-rated signee in Kentucky’s 2024 class? No. In fact, only the kicker is ranked lower than LaFontant. However, I was impressed by the polish at which the interior offensive lineman played. The 6-foot-3, 285-pounder also excelled on the wrestling mat, proving there’s plenty of athleticism to his game. He fit Kentucky’s old recruit and develop model as a versatile interior offensive lineman.

Kentucky may still be able to convince him to stick around, but let’s be candid: one of his primary recruiters was canned. Additionally, it’s hard to recruit players to Kentucky from the state of Connecticut. Distance and cultural fit play a role.

If the Cats lose LaFontant, it’s one less number they have to account for in the roster construction calculation. Nevertheless, it’s not ideal to lose long-time high school commitments 10 days out from signing day, especially to a program the caliber of Boston College.
