Good Sunday morning to you, and Happy National UFO Day. Oh, you didn’t realize it was National UFO Day? Perhaps that is because you are also celebrating the other special holiday that comes around every July 2 called National I Forgot Day.

I swear, both of these are real.

Perhaps more pertinent to Kentucky Sports Radio dot com, it is also National Sports Journalists Day. So if you see your favorite KSR writer on the street today, be sure to go give them a cupcake and a big hug. It won’t be weird at all.

Of course, all this holiday talk wouldn’t be complete without mentioning the upcoming extravaganza on Tuesday. That’s right, friends. We are just two more sleeps away from Nathan’s Hog Dog Eating contest. Will Joey Chestnut regain his title or will an up-and-comer take it away? It is a tradition unlike any other.

Finally, a public service announcement: no one wants to see your fireworks videos on social media. Thanks for your immediate attention on this matter.

Alright, let’s get to the news.

Four-star cornerback and Kentucky target, Terhyon Nichols, will announce his decision today

Terhyon Nichols, a four-star defensive back out of Cincinnati, Ohio is set to announce where he plans to play collegiate football today at 7:00 p.m. The Wildcats are seen as the favorite here, so we could be in store for a little game of Sunday evening Yahtzee!

On3’s Industry rankings consider Nichols the 28th-best cornerback in the class, the 268th-best recruit overall, and the 8th-best player in Ohio. On top of this athleticism on the field, Nichols also boasts a 4.55 GPA.

Not bad.

If Stoops and the Big Dog Vince Marrow pick up Nichols’ commitment, it would be a huge win for the 2024 class. Kentucky is among his final six schools, which also includes Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Pittsburgh, and Cincinnati.

Four-star linebacker, Elijah Groves, picks Kentucky

Nichols’ potential addition to Kentucky’s 2024 football class would come off the tail of another big four-star commitment. Linebacker, Elijah Groves, from Cross Plains, Tennessee, announced yesterday he will be suiting up for Big Blue Nation. He chose the ‘Cats over Purdue and NC State.

According to Adam Luckett’s film room breakdown, Groves flashes some big-time closing speed from an off-ball linebacker position, uses instincts to diagnose quickly, and then triggers downhill. Groves consistently flashed unique raw athletic tools that give the prospect real playmaking potential.

At a listed 6-foot-5 and 210 pounds, it’s hard to currently project where Groves will play at Kentucky but the skill set is obvious.

Welcome aboard.

TyTy Washington traded to the Atlanta Hawks

After drafting him 29th in the 2022 NBA draft and relegating him primarily to either the G League or the end of the bench during his rookie season, the Houston Rockets have traded TyTy Washington to the Atlanta Hawks.

This move felt inevitable considering the Rockets drafted point guard Amen Thompson with the No. 4 overall pick in this year’s draft and brought in Fred Van Vleet via free agency. Considering they also have a slew of returning talent including Kevin Porter Jr. and Jalen Green, moving TyTy was likely the best thing for his career.

Washington will now join forces with Trae Young where he will have much less competition for the backup point guard role. I’m excited to see what year two will bring for TyTy Washington.
