Kentucky's one-point loss to Georgia was most-watched CFB game of Week 3
I’ve got good news and bad news, Big Blue Nation. The good news? Kentucky’s home game over the weekend was the most-watched of the entire Week 3 college football schedule. The bad news? More people watched the Wildcats barely lose to No. 1 Georgia than any other game in the nation.
According to ESPN PR, 6.7 million people watched Kentucky’s 13-12 loss to Georgia on Saturday with a peak of nine million viewers. It was the fifth-most viewed game of the entire 2024 season so far. This was also the most watched Kentucky-Georgia football game in series history, per Dawg Post, surpassing the 2021 matchup that drew in 6.4 million viewers on CBS.
Kentucky vs. Georgia was ABC’s primetime matchup on Saturday. It capped off a triple-header which saw the other two games (LSU vs. South Carolina and Texas A&M vs. Florida) check in as the third- and fourth-most watched games of the day.
Ratings for Kentucky’s first game of the season against Southern Miss were not released (games on the SEC Network are not Nielsen-rated), but the Wildcats’ Week 2 matchup against South Carolina brought in plenty of eyes too — even if fans wish they didn’t. According to Sports Media Watch, Kentucky’s 31-6 loss to the Gamecocks ranked No. 6 in most-watched games during Week 2 with 2.73 million viewers on ABC.
With this weekend’s matchup between Kentucky and Ohio set for the SEC Network, that game won’t receive a rating. However, next Saturday’s noon showdown in Oxford against No. 5 Ole Miss (ABC or ESPN) will certainly be an attractive watch for fans.
