Kentucky’s open practices at the NCAA Tournament are never much more than shooting drills, and today’s in Indianapolis wasn’t much different. For 45 minutes, the Cats worked on their shots at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in front of a small group of Kentucky fans. Jack Pilgrim will have a thorough scouting report for you in just a bit, but first, here are the sights and sounds from my view.

Here are the Cats taking the court, including Jacob Toppin in his face mask:

I didn’t catch it on camera, but as you might imagine, Oscar Tshiebwe got the biggest reaction from the crowd. There weren’t a ton of fans in attendance but definitely more than any other open practice session.

In both the press conferences and the practice, the players seemed loose, joking around with Jerry Tipton and goofing around on the court.

At one point, John Calipari came over and started coaching TyTy Washington on his three-point shot, urging him to make 10 in a row before moving on. Had TyTy’s ball not collided with a few others on more than one occasion, he would have easily hit ten straight.

When he wasn’t shooting, TyTy was coaching others, by far the loudest player on the court.

I didn’t capture this on film, but Kellan Grady was similarly focused on his shot after a poor outing vs. Tennessee. For the few minutes I watched him, he struggled, chastising himself after each missed attempt. After taking a moment to reset, he drilled three straight.

Brennan Canada made the halfcourt shot, but not before John Calipari and all the other coaches on staff missed it:

At the end, Orlando Antigua tried to drag Oscar Tshiebwe away from fans at the tunnel but the big man dug in his heels, trying to sign every autograph he could before he was pushed towards the locker room.
