It’s officially talking season in the college basketball world. Earlier today, we learned that Kentucky men’s basketball will begin the 2024-25 season ranked No. 23 in the AP Poll. A few hours later, we learned what the SEC and national media think about the Wildcats going into Mark Pope‘s first season as head coach.

Kentucky was picked to finish 8th in the new-look SEC, which now has 16 teams with the additions of Texas and Oklahoma. Additionally, fifth-year guard Jaxson Robinson was tabbed to the All-SEC Third Team. The 6-foot-6 Robinson spent his last two seasons at BYU playing under Pope where he was named the Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year in 2023-24. He averaged 14.2 points per game on 35.4 percent shooting from beyond the arc.

Alabama, which checked in at No. 2 in the preseason AP Poll, was picked as the SEC’s preseason favorite. The Crimson Tide’s star guard, Mark Sears, earned Preseason Player of the Year honors. Auburn’s Johni Broome, Georgia’s Asa Newell, Tennessee’s Zakai Zeigler, and Texas A&M’s Wade Taylor IV all received Player of the Year votes.
