Kentucky’s NCAA Tournament resume got a big boost last night with the win over Texas A&M. The Cats also got some help from their biggest rival.

Kentucky picked up not one but two Quad 1 wins on Tuesday night. One is obviously the 81-69 victory over Texas A&M. Louisville’s win over Syracuse boosted the Cards from No. 33 to No. 29 in the NET Rankings, which moves Kentucky’s win over Louisville on Dec. 14 from Quad 2 to Quad 1. Kentucky, now No. 12 in the NET, is 6-3 in Quad 1 games, with 10 Quad 1 games remaining.

The Cats’ six Quad 1 wins are the third most in the country behind Auburn (9) and Oregon (8). Auburn has 12 Quad 1 games remaining, which is absurd. Only two of their games are not in Quad 1, the home games vs. Oklahoma and Arkansas. The Tigers beat No. 15 Mississippi State by 22 last night, even without Johni Broome. Like we needed further proof they’re good.

Anyway, here is a quick look at Kentucky’s team sheet after last night’s games. Of the ten Quad 1 games remaining, eight are in Quad 1A, meaning the best of the best in the eyes of the Selection Committee. One of those is Saturday against Alabama (NET No. 9) in Rupp.

The Road Ahead

It’s only Quad 1 games until February for the Cats, starting with Alabama’s trip to Rupp on Saturday. That and the trip to Tennessee on Jan. 28 are in Quad 1A. The game vs. Arkansas on Feb. 1 is one of four Quad 2/3 games left on the schedule. Although the Razorbacks are 0-4 in SEC play so far, it certainly won’t feel like it in the hours leading up to John Calipari’s return to Rupp.
