Kentucky QB Kaiya Sheron Enters the Transfer Portal
For the second time in as many days, a Kentucky quarterback is on the move. Kaiya Sheron is officially in the transfer portal. He just completed his redshirt sophomore season and will have two years to play elsewhere.
Sheron was a standout at Somerset High School. His late-game heroics propelled the Briar Jumpers to a 2A State Title in 2019. He concluded his prep career with 3,218 yards and 28 touchdowns while rushing for 959 yards and nine scores.
Liam Coen liked what he saw from Sheron during his true freshman season, but it wasn’t until after Coen departed that he finally saw some real game reps under center. Following an injury to Will Levis at Ole Miss, Sheron was thrust into a starting role against South Carolina. It was a disaster, though no fault of his own.
On the first snap of the game Rich Scangarello dialed up a trick play. Similar to Shannon Dawson, if it worked, you would’ve loved it. The Gamecocks forced a turnover and returned it to the 1-yard line, scoring on the ensuing snap. The opening drive killed all of the vibes and forced Kentucky to play from behind. Sheron still fought through adversity and produced some solid numbers, completing 15-of-27 passes for 178 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in the 24-14 defeat.

Sheron appeared in three games in 2023. Even though Devin Leary is on his way out, it’s clear Kentucky is searching for a starting quarterback in the transfer portal. Best of luck to the Briar Jumper as he searches for a new home.
