Over the weekend Kentucky turned heads on the recruiting trail by hosting a handful of four-star recruits. The Cats teed up another big-time official visitor for week two of the college football season, but there’s been a change of plans, thanks to Coach Prime and the Colorado Buffaloes.

Kam Mikell and Amontrae Bradford, a couple of Statesboro (GA) teammates, made plans over the summer to officially visit Kentucky when the Wildcats host EKU. Monday night they told 247’s Steve Wiltfong they are changing those plans. Instead of traveling to Lexington, they will be in Boulder for an official visit to Colorado when the Buffs host Nebraska for a Big Noon kickoff.

Bradford is a three-star EDGE prospect. Mikell is a four-star talent that is considered one of the top two-way talents in high school football, ranked as the No. 53 overall player in the On300. A cornerback and wide receiver, after watching Travis Hunter star in week one, you can understand why Mikell might be intrigued to make a return trip to Boulder for an OV.

Georgia has pursued Mikell to play cornerback, while Kentucky gained traction pitching him the chance to play the wide receiver position in Lexington. South Carolina and Georgia Tech are also in the mix for Mikell. He’ll take OVs to Tennessee and Texas A&M over the next month.

This actually might be good news for the Wildcats. The Statesboro stars have rescheduled their official visits to Kentucky for Oct. 28 when Tennessee comes to town. The Coach Prime effect has implications all across college football, even in Lexington. Chris Collins is going to have to wait a little longer to get Kam Mikell on Kentucky’s campus.

Kentucky Hosted Three Four-Star Recruits Over the Weekend

This news is the only negative Kentucky football recruiting development we’ve heard in recent weeks. Vince Marrow made a splash in the season-opener. Not only did Jerod Smith and Jacob Smith make the trip up to Lexington, they were joined by four-star EDGE Brian Robinson. Each recruitment has featured plenty of twists and turns. Robinson’s went quiet after taking multiple official visits in June. His unofficial visit provides some reassurance that Kentucky is still firmly in the mix.

They weren’t the only big names in town. Devin Smith made a surprise official visit to Kentucky. A plug-and-play linebacker being pursued by everyone in the SEC is ready to announce a decision. Less than 48 hours after returning home to Brunswick (GA) he shared that he will pick between Kentucky and LSU on Sept. 22. You gotta feel good about the Cats’ chances.
