Kentucky reportedly reaches out to Belmont transfer Cade Tyson
A new name has popped on Kentucky’s transfer portal radar, and he’s one the Big Blue Nation should keep an eye on.
According to Nick Jones, who is the AAU coach of Team Curry, Belmont transfer Cade Tyson has been contacted by the Kentucky men’s basketball staff. During his high school days, Tyson played for Team Curry on the Under Armour circuit. 247Sports later confirmed the report.
Tyson, who entered his name in the portal on March 25, is coming off an impressive sophomore campaign with Belmont in 2023-24. The 6-foot-7 forward averaged 16.2 points and 5.9 rebounds in 31.6 minutes per contest for the Bruins, starting all 31 games he appeared in. Tyson is known as an efficient scorer, shooting 49.3 percent overall, 46.5 percent from deep (on 5.5 attempts per game), and 85.5 percent from the line.
He will have two years of college eligibility remaining and is considered the 39th-best available portal target, per On3.
As a freshman at Belmont in 2022-23, Tyson was tabbed the Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year after posting per-game averages of 13.6 points and 4.6 rebounds in 29.1 minutes on shooting splits of 49/41.7/85.9. He dropped 24 points in a conference tournament loss to Indiana State to close out the season.

His game only improved as a sophomore. Behind nine games of at least 20 points, including a career-high 31 points against Samford, Tyson was ultimately tabbed to the All-MVC Second Team. He was rated as the top shooter against conference opponents, going 55-102 from long range (53.9 percent) in 19 MVC games.
Tyson, who was 2022 North Carolina Mr. Basketball out of high school, has a long list of suitors knocking on his door. Along with Kentucky, schools such as Duke, North Carolina, Tennessee, Auburn, Florida, Kansas, Louisville, Texas, Villanova, and many more have reached out to the sharpshooter.
His older brother, Hunter Tyson, spent five seasons at Clemson before being selected in the second round of the 2023 NBA Draft. Hunter currently plays for the Denver Nuggets’ G League affiliate.
