Kentucky's SEC Tournament scenarios following the Ole Miss win
With one game left in the regular season, Kentucky’s SEC Tournament path remains uncertain. Last night’s win over Ole Miss took the Cats’ record in the SEC to 13-4. They are now tied with Tennessee for second in the conference standings behind Auburn. Both Auburn and LSU play tonight (at Mississippi State and vs. LSU) so the standings will look different one way or the other soon.

I’ll bring you a new projected SEC Tournament bracket in the morning once the dust settles, but for now, here are Kentucky’s SEC Tournament scenarios. The ones in bold have the highest probability. Right now, everything from a No. 1 seed to a No. 4 seed is possible, although a No. 3 seed or a No. 2 seed is the most likely.
No. 1 seed (Play winner of No. 8 vs. No. 9 Friday at 12 PM ET)
- Kentucky beats Florida, Auburn loses out, LSU beats Arkansas, Arkansas beats Tennessee
No. 2 seed (Play winner of No. 10 vs. No. 7 Friday at 6 PM ET)
- Kentucky beats Florida, Auburn wins out, Arkansas loses to LSU, Arkansas beats Tennessee
- Kentucky beats Florida, Auburn loses to Mississippi State or South Carolina, Arkansas loses to LSU, Arkansas beats Tennessee
- Kentucky beats Florida, Auburn loses out, Arkansas beats LSU, Tennessee beats Arkansas
- Kentucky beats Florida, Auburn loses out, Arkansas wins out
- Kentucky beats Florida, Auburn loses out, Arkansas loses out
No. 3 seed (Play winner of No. 6 vs. No. 11/No. 14 Friday at 8:30 PM ET)
- Kentucky beats Florida, Auburn wins out, Arkansas beats LSU, Tennessee beats Arkansas
- Kentucky beats Florida, Auburn wins out, Arkansas wins out (beating Tennessee)
- Kentucky beats Florida, Auburn loses to either Mississippi State or South Carolina, Arkansas loses out
- Kentucky loses to Florida, Auburn wins out, Arkansas loses out
No. 4 seed (Play winner of No. 5 vs. No. 12/No. 13 Friday at 2:30 PM ET)
- Kentucky loses to Florida, Auburn wins out, Arkansas beats LSU, Tennessee beats Arkansas
- Kentucky loses to Florida, Auburn wins out, Arkansas wins out (beating Tennessee)
- Kentucky loses to Florida, Auburn loses out, Arkansas loses to LSU, Arkansas beats Tennessee
Too complicated;didn’t read? If you want Kentucky to get the No. 2 seed and avoid the late Friday night game, cheer for LSU to beat Arkansas tonight but for the Razorbacks to beat Tennessee on Saturday.
NCAA Tournament Projections
What about the Big Dance? Kansas and Purdue lost last night, prompting bracketologists to shuffle their No. 1 and No. 2 seed lines. Joe Lunardi’s latest update has Auburn taking Kansas’ No. 1 seed and the Jayhawks falling behind Kentucky on the No. 2 seed line; however, he notes that if Auburn loses tonight, Kansas will reclaim its No. 1 seed, hopping Kentucky. Huh?

CBS Sports’ Jerry Palm had Kentucky as a No. 3 seed yesterday and moved the Cats up to a No. 2 seed following Providence’s loss to Villanova. That puts the Cats out west with Gonzaga:
The race for the final No. 1 seed clearly isn’t over. Kentucky can still make a good case for it, with a Quad 1 game left at Florida and potentially a few more in the SEC Tournament. There are a million scenarios, but right now, which team do you most want to AVOID before the Final Four?
