Tuesday was another exciting night in the SEC. Georgia knocked off Florida, although the Bulldogs almost blew a 26-point lead. That win helps Georgia’s NCAA Tournament chances and means 14 SEC teams could make the field, which is absolutely ridiculous.

When it comes to the SEC Tournament scenarios, Georgia’s upset doesn’t mean much for Kentucky, unless the Cats run the table. One win that does is Alabama’s over Mississippi State. Kentucky is now a half-a-game up on the Bulldogs in the standings. If the Cats take care of business vs. Oklahoma tonight and Auburn beats Ole Miss, Kentucky and Ole Miss will be tied for seventh in the standings (8-7) ahead of Mississippi State (7-8). The Rebels hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over Kentucky, which would give the Cats the No. 8 seed in the SEC Tournament if it started tomorrow.

Looking at the schedule the rest of the way, the most likely scenario is Kentucky ending the regular season tied with Ole Miss and Mississippi State (which has the easiest schedule of the three remaining) at 9-9, which would give Kentucky the No. 8 seed; however, Vanderbilt could once again give the Cats an assist. If the Commodores knock off Texas A&M tonight AND Kentucky finishes the season 3-1, the Cats could get the No. 6 seed in the SEC Tournament, which would mean playing the winner of the No. 11 seed/No. 14 seed game on Thursday night. In that case, you could avoid playing Auburn in the quarterfinals and instead face the No. 3 seed. Although, if Vandy gets really hot in the final stretch, things could get complicated with tiebreakers.

We’ll do a bigger SEC Tournament scenario breakdown tomorrow once the dust has settled on the midweek games. For now, cheer for Kentucky to beat Oklahoma, Auburn to beat Ole Miss, and Vandy to beat Texas A&M if you want the Cats to have a chance to be in the bottom half of the bracket. Texas vs. Arkansas doesn’t have a big impact currently, but could if Kentucky goes 1-3 down the stretch. Both the Longhorns and the Razorbacks have manageable schedules remaining and hold tiebreakers over Kentucky.
