Kentucky selling pieces of original Memorial Coliseum seats
Want to own a piece of Kentucky Wildcats history? With renovations now underway at Memorial Coliseum, UK is selling pieces of the original seats from when the building first opened in 1950. Based on the renderings of the facility when it’s completed, the original wooden seats will be replaced with new blue chairback seats (which are probably much more comfortable) and bleachers. Thankfully, instead of chucking the old ones in the trash, UK is offering them to fans, the perfect addition to your sports cave.
For $99.99, you can purchase a seat with a sublimated plate. For an additional $100, it’ll come in a shadowbox.
You can also get a piece of the seat with the seat number in a display case for $129.99 or a piece of the seat with no number for $89.99.
This spring, construction began on the $82 million renovation of Memorial Coliseum. The “modernization” will encompass all of the building’s interior and bring climate-control improvements; modern seating for campus, community, and athletic events; systems-related upgrades such as life safety, security, lighting, and sound; and improve the facility’s overall experience.

In June, Kentucky athletics director Mitch Barnhart said Memorial Coliseum will be “substantially completed for competition” by the fall of 2024 and totally finished by spring 2025. Until then, women’s basketball, volleyball, gymnastics, and STUNT will hold their home events at Rupp Arena, save for a few women’s basketball games that will take place at Transylvania University.
