Kentucky shares sneak peek of new lighting system at Kroger Field

There are only 24 days until Kentucky Football’s season opener vs. Southern Miss. Last night, Kentucky gave us a sneak peek of a very cool upgrade to Kroger Field.

In February, the UK Board of Trustees approved a $7 million renovation to the stadium’s lighting system and ribbon boards. The LED lighting system will give Kentucky the ability to do light shows during timeouts and breaks in play similar to those at games at Rupp Arena, Kentucky Proud Park, and stadiums across college football, most notably Tennessee’s Neyland Stadium.

Thanks to Freddie Maggard, we got a heads-up that the new lights were being installed last month. Kentucky recently took them for a spin, showing off the light show on Twitter last night. Volume up to hear “It’s Football Time In The Bluegrass.”

The Southern Miss game kicks off at 7:45 p.m. ET, giving Kentucky the perfect opportunity to debut the lighting system and get the kinks out before back-to-back defending national champion Georgia comes to town two weeks later. The South Carolina game kicks off at 3:30 p.m. ET on Sept. 7, so maybe we can celebrate a crucial win over the Gamecocks as the sun sets over Kroger Field too.
