Kentucky Shuts Out Bellarmine for Another Midweek Win

It was a quick and easy victory for Kentucky over Bellarmine 5-0 on Wednesday night. Sydney Langdon completely shut down the Knights offense, only allowing one hit in her complete game.
Good Win?
As good as the final score looked, Kentucky has a couple of problem areas to attend to as they head into the bulk of their SEC schedule. The Wildcats had a couple of positive moments against the Knights but left some worry out on the plate.
Kentucky did start well, scoring two early runs from McKenzie Bump and Peyton Plotts. Unfortunately, Bump suffered a lower leg injury in the third inning and had to leave the game. The status of her injury is unknown as of now.
On the season, Bump has a .341 batting average and contributes in all facets of the game. She is capable of power-hitting but also does extremely well with sacrifice bunts and fly balls. A prolonged injury could be troublesome for Kentucky.
Lauren Borzilleri picked up the slack in Bump’s absence with two hits, two RBIs, and a stolen base. She continues to bring consistency and calmness to this team.
Another Wildcat who elevated her game due to the lack of offense was Sydney Langdon. Langdon had a less-than-desirable start to her season, but the sophomore had a great outing against Bellarmine.

Langdon was throwing a no-hitter through five innings in this game, a remarkable feat no matter the opponent. She finished the game efficiently with 96 total pitches and three strikeouts. This should be a great confidence boost in her game.
A hidden but glaring statistic that Kentucky needs to fix is the amount of runners they are leaving on base. Against Bellarmine, the ‘Cats stranded 11 runners. Last weekend against LSU, they stranded nine. Kentucky is getting the hits they need, just not in the clutch moments.
Kentucky (19-10; 3-3 SEC) will have the chance to improve on that as they face off against Ole Miss this weekend. The Wildcats will host the Rebels at John Cropp Stadium in their second SEC home series of the season.
The last time Kentucky hosted an SEC series, they swept Missouri. The ‘Cats will hope they can reproduce another sweep and improve their conference record.
