Four years ago yesterday, Kentucky beat Florida 27-16 to snap the 31-game losing streak, a day that will go down in program history. As we rev up for another huge game vs. the Gators tomorrow night, let’s flashback to that wonderful Saturday in 2018 and the heroes that made it happen.

Terry Wilson scores three touchdowns in his second start

In only his second game as Kentucky’s starting quarterback, Terry Wilson helped Kentucky exorcise decades-old demons. Wilson overcame two early turnovers to complete 11 of 16 passes for 151 yards and two touchdowns, including a 54-yarder to Lynn Bowden on third and long. He also burned Florida on the ground with 105 rushing yards on ten carries. This 24-yard touchdown run gave the Cats a 14-10 lead in the third quarter.

175 yards for Benny Snell

The recipe for beating Florida in the Swamp? Run, run, run. Kentucky had over 300 rushing yards vs. Florida, over half coming from Benny Snell. Benny finished with 175 rushing yards on 27 carries, an average of 6.5 yards per carry. This pancake by Bunchy Stallings helped Benny get a crucial first down:

On defense, the Cats bent but did not break. Even though Kentucky surrendered 360 yards, big plays kept the Gators at bay. Darius West picked off Feleipe Franks, Josh Allen batted down a two-point attempt and stripped Franks at the end of the game, which led to Kentucky’s final, thrilling touchdown. You probably remember Kash Daniel‘s celebration:

A wild night at KSBar

Back at home, Ryan Lemond and Drew Franklin christened the newly-opened KSBar with champagne, a sight that few can forget.

An emotional Jared Lorenzen

One Wildcat was especially moved by the win. The late, great Jared Lorenzen went live on Periscope as the seconds ticked down to victory. When the win was secure, he went to the freezer for some moonshine.

Man, I miss our friend.
