The Kentucky softball team struggled to fend off a booming Stanford Cardinal offense, losing 9-1 on Tuesday night at John Cropp Stadium.

“Just One Of Those Nights”

In a mid-game interview, Rachel Lawson described Tuesday’s game as, “Just one of those nights.” It felt like nothing was working for Kentucky against Stanford.

Kentucky cycled through three of their five pitchers in an attempt to slow down one of the best offenses in the country, but to no avail.

Sydney Langdon was the starting pitcher for the Wildcats. It was a tough outing for her, only recording one out before being replaced on the mound. Stanford scored four runs in the first inning on five hits, all given up by Langdon.

Sarah Haendiges replaced Langdon on the mound and was able to go four innings before allowing a run. In that span, Haendiges struck out five batters.

Carson Fall was the next pitcher up for Kentucky, replacing Haendiges in the fifth. Fall remained on the mound until the end of the game, giving up two earned runs, including a home run in the seventh.

In total, the pitching staff allowed every Stanford starter to reach base and went through the lineup five times. Kentucky will definitely need the pitching to improve as they travel to Fayetteville over the weekend to face No. 14 Arkansas.

Not only did Kentucky struggle to keep Stanford off the board, the Wildcats only produced one hit the entire night.

It came off the bat of Cassie Reasner who hit a RBI single in the fourth inning. She continues to shine for Kentucky, second on the team in RBIs with 23.
