Kentucky Softball Secures Two Wins In A Quick Trip To Boston

It was Kentucky softball’s bye weekend in the SEC, so the ‘Cats took a trip up north to play an underrated Boston University team. Kentucky came up with two wins against the Terriers in a Friday doubleheader to move them to 26-17 (20-9 non-conference) on the season.
Peyton Plotts Walks It Off
In a highly competitive first meeting between the two teams, it was Peyton Plotts who came up huge for the Wildcats. Her eighth-inning solo home run put Kentucky up late and secured the win 4-3.
The game started with Plotts’ first home run of the game, a 2-run shot in the first inning. Plotts is an extremely dangerous hitter right now, hitting at a .355 clip with 44 hits and 38 RBIs.
Kentucky was up 2-0 after the first inning, but the lead did not last long. Boston fought back and earned three runs on five straight singles to put them ahead in the second inning.
Allie Blum responded quickly with a RBI single in the third to tie the game back up 3-3.
Both teams were scoreless the rest of the way, forcing extra innings in the game to decide a winner. As the visiting team, Kentucky had the first opportunity to get a run on the board.
Peyton Plotts was the first batter up in the inning, and it seemed like she wanted to get home early as she nuked her second home run of the game to left field. The solo shot put Kentucky up 4-3.
The ‘Cats held on the bottom of the inning to get the first win over the Terriers that day.
It’s Raining Home Runs
In the second game of the doubleheader, Kentucky might have thought they were in the home run derby. The ‘Cats run-ruled the Terriers 13-4 off six home runs.

Kentucky started the home run train in the third inning with Cassie Reasner. The game was tied 4-4 when Reasner unloaded on a ball over the left field wall. Karissa Hamilton made it back-to-back home runs with her own solo shot, putting the Wildcats up 7-4.
It got even more impressive from there. Delani Sullivan made it back-to-back-to-back home runs for Kentucky as she got in on the party.
In the next inning, Madyson Clark got her very first home run in a Kentucky uniform, adding to the home run total. Following Clark, Reasner hit her second home run of the night, putting Kentucky up 12-4 after the fourth inning.
Last but not least, Peyton Plotts recorded her third home run of the day in the fifth inning to put the final score at 13-4.
Kentucky planned on playing against Sacred Heart University, but incoming weather in Boston canceled that matchup. So, the Wildcats earned two wins and have two days extra rest to ready themselves for more softball next week.
