Kentucky softball was unable to dial up a road win against LSU, the fourth best team in the country. The Wildcats showed some promise, but could not match the Tigers offensively during this weekend’s three-game series.

Slow Start

After a perfect start to SEC play last weekend, Kentucky was trying to carry their momentum into Baton Rouge. Unfortunately, the ‘Cats did not get off to a good start, losing the first game of the series 4-1.

The struggles started early for Kentucky, giving up three runs in the first inning. Sydney Langdon was the starting pitcher on Friday, a change from the previous weekend.

Langdon had a phenomenal freshman year and fans were very excited to see her progress this season. It has not been smooth sailing so far.

Langdon has seen the mound the second least of anyone on the Kentucky pitching staff, and has the highest ERA on the team at 3.80. If Langdon can get back on track, the Wildcats should be very optimistic for the rest of their SEC schedule.

Kentucky scored their only run of the day in the top of the third. With the bases loaded, McKenzie Bump hit a sac-fly to center field that scored a runner. Other than that score, the ‘Cats struggled to find any offense.

Cats Lose A Close One

On Saturday, Kentucky put up a better fight, narrowly losing 6-4 to LSU. Madyson Clark got her first start of the year at second base, and her new energy almost boosted the team to a win.

Cassie Reasner and Ally Hutchins both had solo home runs against the Tigers to keep Kentucky close. These two are some of the heaviest hitters for the Wildcats and are certainly heating up lately.

In the sixth inning, Kentucky trailed by two and needed someone to step up. Madyson Clark has seen limited playing time this season, but was the X-factor for Kentucky on Saturday.

Sitting on only one hit for the season, in which she recorded previously in this game, Clark dialed up a huge 2-RBI double to tie the score late in the game.

But it was LSU that came up big at the end to overtake Kentucky. Later in the sixth, the Wildcats gave up a 2-run home run that put LSU back in the lead. Kentucky could not return the favor in the seventh and picked up another loss to the Tigers.

Frustration Continues For The Cats

LSU got the sweep on Sunday as Kentucky lost a frustrating game 8-2. The Wildcats outhit the Tigers 9-6, but stranded nine runners.

In three different innings, Kentucky had at least two base runners on with only one out. UK only converted a run in one of those innings.

It was Hallie Mitchell who brought in the run for the Wildcats. She was able to drive the ball into left field, scoring the runner on third base and getting herself a sac-fly RBI.

LSU poured it on in the bottom of the sixth, widening the lead from three runs to seven runs after back-to-back home runs. Kentucky narrowly escaped a run-rule, which they have not experienced all year.

Looking for some magic, Lauren Borzilleri hit a RBI double in the seventh. Three straight outs after that and the game was over.
