Kentucky softball started the day off strong with a exciting win over Clemson 7-6. Kentucky was hoping to carry that momentum into their next game against #9 Oklahoma State, but could not come up with another win.
Wildcats Survive A Thriller
Kentucky started their Friday doubleheader with a thrilling win over Clemson 7-6. The Wildcats were leading 7-2 after the 6th inning, but survived a late rally from the Tigers with the tying run on base to secure the victory.
In their most competitive game yet, several Wildcats stepped up to earn the hard fought victory. Peyton Plotts got things going early with a two-run HR in the 1st inning to put Kentucky up early, her second of the year. Plotts continued her efforts with a RBI double in the 3rd inning.
Freshman Anna Mauck was subbed in to pinch hit later on in the 6th inning where she punished the first pitch she saw. A three-run HR, the first of her career, came off her bat to put Kentucky up 7-2.
Kentucky also made a couple insane defensive plays throughout the game to keep Clemson at bay. Delani Sullivan threw a runner out at home from center field, Emory Donaldson climbed the ladder to make an impressive catch, and Cassie Reasner laid out for a ball off Ally Hutchins‘ glove for an out.
The defensive effort halted in the bottom of the 7th inning as several mistakes almost cost Kentucky the win. Two errors in the infield put runners on base for Clemson. Then, two passed balls scored two runs for Clemson.
Carson Fall was brought into the game with two outs and the tying score on base. Fall came up clutch striking out the last batter of the game to push Kentucky past Clemson 7-6.

Cats Still Searching For Ranked Win
Kentucky lost their second game in their doubleheader on Friday to #9 Oklahoma State 6-3. The Wildcats took advantage of errors early but couldn’t hang on for the win.
Kentucky went up 3-1 in the 3rd inning from multiple Oklahoma State fielding errors. Three straight Wildcats reached base on errors and one run scored in that period. Then, with the bases loaded, Cassie Reasner was able to drive another run in. A passed ball gave Kentucky their third run in the inning.
The 5th inning was the difference maker. Julie Kelley was pitching a great game until she gave up a two-run HR that tied the game. Sydney Langdon replaced Kelley on the mound and immediately gave up another two-run HR, giving Oklahoma State a 5-3 lead.
Kentucky could not get any offense going to make a comeback and dropped their second game of the Clearwater Invitational to Oklahoma State 6-3.
Saturday Schedule
Kentucky will close out their week against #4 UCLA at 12:00 p.m. EST on Saturday. This will be the third opportunity for the Wildcats to earn a ranked win which will boost their NCAA Tournament resume. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
