Hello friends. Are you still stuck in a post-holiday malaise? There’s no need to press pause just yet. It’s a Sunday, a day of rest and relaxation, or a day to get after it. However you want to enjoy your Sunday, do it. You’ve got another week to not take things too seriously before the calendar turns to 2025. Squeeze the last bit of joy out of 2024 while you can.

Before we get into what’s on deck, here’s a little sample of what happened on Saturday, and it’s not all good.

Kentucky WR Hardley Gilmore Enters the Transfer Portal

The 4-win Kentucky football team didn’t have a lot going for it, but four young players on offense excited BBN. Building around them for the future provided a dash of optimism in an otherwise bleak setting. One of those players entered the transfer portal on the last day it was open to Kentucky football players.

Hardley Gilmore was projected to be WR2 for the Cats. The former four-star talent received glowing reviews from offensive coordinator Bush Hamdan in the preseason, but a broken collarbone stalled his debut. Gilmore began playing in October, catching 6 passes for 153 yards and a 52-yard touchdown reception.

The 22nd transfer portal entry this offseason for the Wildcats will solicit the angriest reaction, and rightfully so. There’s an outside chance that Gilmore will withdraw his name and return to Kentucky. I won’t hold my breath.

Who is Zach Calzada going to throw passes to? Great question. The Kentucky wide receiver room is getting flipped and they need more experienced players in a very bad way.

Kentucky WBB gets a W

Mark Pope’s team has a few more days off before returning to Rupp Arena to wrap up non-conference action. Kenny Brooks’ squad did just that yesterday by capping off non-con play with an 11-1 record, thanks to an 88-70 victory over WKU.

Clara Strack was 10-15 from the floor to score 21 points and grab a dozen rebounds in the victory. Georgia Amoore was one assist shy of a double-double, finishing with 21 and 9, while Saniah Tyler had a season-high 11 points in the double-digit win.

“It was a good test for us, and I thought we came through pretty well. Got some things we need to work on,” Brooks said after the win.

Kentucky opens SEC play this Thursday against Mississippi State. The 16th-ranked Wildcats will be hosting the Bulldogs at Historic Memorial Coliseum and the game will air on the SEC Network.

The Football Was Good

Saturday was an all-time great day watching football on the gridiron. There were just shy of a dozen football games. Not all of them were great, but they produced hilarious images and thrilling finishes.

The Bengals doinked a game-winning field goal in overtime and Joe Burrow still willed them to a win. Tee Higginsheroics are keeping Cincinnati’s playoff hopes alive. The Rams got one step closer to clinching the NFC West after a ball bounced off Trey McBride‘s helmet and was intercepted in the end zone.

Nebraska won its first bowl game in approximately 84 years in a sloppy game that wasn’t decide until the final minute at Yankee Stadium. East Carolina upset NC State in a instate matchup that produced a gnarly fight that left a gash on the head of an official. The Pop-Tarts Bowl was a thrilling shootout that ended with a one-point win for Iowa State. It still wasn’t the best visual of the day. That belongs to Chuck Martin’s turtleneck, sweater-vest, and Snoop Dogg. I can’t stop laughing.
