The first major bomb has dropped for the Kentucky Wildcats in terms of postseason departures — and it’s undoubtedly one that indicates a total locker room reset in Lexington. Star receiver Dane Key has not entered the NFL Draft, as some expected. Instead, he’s exploring his options in the transfer portal.

The junior pass-catcher announced the massive news Wednesday night.

“I am incredibly grateful to the University of Kentucky for the opportunity to be a part of such an amazing program and community,” Key said. “The experiences, the memories, and relationships I’ve built here will always hold a special place in my heart. I want to thank my coaches, teammates, and the entire Kentucky staff for their support and belief in me throughout my time here. Most importantly, I want to thank God for guiding me on this journey and blessing me with the opportunity to grow both as an athlete and as an individual.

“After much prayer and reflection, I’ve made the decision to enter the transfer portal for my final year.”

In three seasons with the Wildcats, Key totaled 126 receptions for 1,870 yards and 14 touchdowns, emerging as the most reliable and talented player in the receiver room.

As a recruit, the four-star out of Lexington was the No. 266 overall prospect in the 2022 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. He also ranked as the nation’s No. 45 wide receiver and the No. 1 prospect in Kentucky.
