The Ole Miss-South Carolina contest was a fascinating Week 6 matchup in the Southeastern Conference. We were going to learn a lot about both teams. The end result is one that makes Kentucky’s statement win in Oxford look even better just one week later.

Kentucky’s biggest win and Kentucky’s worst loss faced off on Saturday afternoon at Williams-Brice Stadium. The result probably makes you feel better about the progression of the football team in Lexington.

Lane Kiffin‘s Rebels rolled up over 400 yards of offense on 6.2 yards per play in a resounding 27-3 road win.

South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers accumulated 162 passing yards and 86 non-sack rushing yards but six sacks and two turnovers from the redshirt freshman highlighted what was a rough day for the Gamecock offense. Ole Miss held the South Carolina tailbacks to 87 rushing yards on 24 attempts. Kiffin’s offense found explosive passing plays (11 yards per attempt) and grinded out 149 non-sack rushing yards.

Kentucky had an all systems failure against South Carolina in Week 2, but the further we get away from that embarrassing performance, the more it looks like just a one off clunker. The Wildcats very much played like a top-15 team against Georgia and Ole Miss. On Saturday, Ole Miss proved that they may have been worth of that top-10 preseason ranking

Kentucky played idle in Week 6, but their signature win and recent form received some more confirmation. The Wildcats are playing excellent football and have made significant improvements since that inexplicable home loss to South Carolina.
