Kentucky‘s win in the jungle had significant implications for the Wildcats’ place in the Southeastern Conference with only three weeks to go in the regular season. Heading into the game at Auburn, Kentucky was statistically staring down a sixth-place finish in the league, playing a Thursday game in Nashville in the conference tournament, according to projections. But, the outcomes of the games are all that matters, and Kentucky pulled off a Saturday upset of the SEC’s hottest team on its own floor, where Auburn hadn’t lost all season until Kentucky came to town. Now, the Big Blue Nation’s dreams of a run at the regular season championship and a double-bye in the SEC Tournament are closer within reach.

With six games to go, Kentucky is one of four teams with four losses on its resume. The Wildcats are two games from the top, with first-place Alabama coming to Lexington next weekend.

Up Next For The Wildcats

Before the Alabama game, Kentucky’s travels continue on Wednesday with a trip to LSU. The Tigers will enter that game in similar circumstances, fresh off an upset win at South Carolina on Saturday as a heavy underdog. LSU’s victory in Columbia benefited Kentucky’s place in the standings as it was the second straight loss for the Gamecocks, bringing the SEC’s Cinderella back into the crowd behind Alabama. The league is still up for grabs, especially if Kentucky can defend its home court against the Crimson Tide next weekend. You can’t overlook that trip to Baton Rouge, though. Tipoff is Wednesday night at 9 p.m.
