Kentucky still a No. 2 seed in latest Bracketology
There’s been plenty of talk about how a No. 1 seed is within reach for Kentucky this season. With five Quad 1 games remaining and zero losses in Quads 2-4, the Cats are a few more wins away from having a resume worthy of the top seed line.
For now, Joe Lunardi still has Kentucky as a No. 2 seed. In the latest Bracketology, the Cats are in the East Region opposite No. 1 seed Purdue. In this 100% fictional bracket, Kentucky faces Appalachian State in the opening round in Indianapolis, with a potential second-round game vs. Iowa. Also in the East: No. 3 seed UCLA and No. 4 seed Texas.
Here are all of the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds in Lunardi’s projections:
- No. 1 seeds: Auburn (Midwest), Gonzaga (West), Arizona (South), Purdue (East)
- No. 2 seeds: Kansas (Midwest), Duke (West), Baylor (South), Kentucky (East)
On3’s Eric Prisbell also has the Cats as a No. 2 seed right now, with Auburn, Gonzaga, Purdue, and Arizona as the No. 1 seeds. There’s a case to be made for Kentucky over Purdue (who has a Quad 2 loss) as a No. 1 seed right now, but hopefully, the Cats make their resume ironclad with a few more Quad 1 wins. Until then, we’ll keep bringing you hypotheticals to pass the time. Like how Kentucky vs. Duke in the Elite Eight in Philly 30 years after The Shot feels inevitable if the Cats and Blue Devils end up on different seed lines.
