A familiar name is playing his final year of prep basketball at a familiar venue for Kentucky basketball players. 2024 five-star prospect Karter Knox will play basketball this fall for Overtime Elite .

Kevin Knox‘s younger brother will be making the move from Tampa Catholic to the upstart league in Atlanta where he will retain his college eligibility. Knox is one of a few prolific players that has agreed to join the league in recent months, following John Bol (No. 5 C), Kanon Catchings (No. 11 SF) and Darrion Sutton (No. 32 SF).

Karter Knox is ranked by On3 as the No. 5 player in the country. The consensus five-star talent is the second-ranked small forward and the No. 6 overall recruit in the 2024 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services.

The 6-foot-5 swingman has been a long-time target by the Wildcats for obvious reasons. John Calipari has essentially been recruiting him since the UK head coach began speaking with Kevin Knox almost eight years ago. He may not have won those games, but Kenny Payne was in the room for most of those meetings, if not more. Now the head coach at UofL, Payne is making a strong play for the five-star talent he’s known for years.

The move to Overtime Elite may give Kentucky another leg up over the Cardinals. The professional prep league has become a pipeline of sorts for the Wildcats since they began offering a NIL-backed pathway that allows for prospective players to retain their college eligibility.

Rob Dillingham was the first big name name to pledge his allegiance to the BBN. When the Cats were strapped for players in the late spring, they went back to the Overtime Elite well. Jordan Burks quickly signed on the dotted line. Somto Cyril followed soon after, announcing his Kentucky commitment in the class of 2024 (although that’s subject to change). There’s a scenario where Knox and Cyril are teammates this fall at OTE, then the following year in Lexington.

Kentucky’s early investment into Overtime Elite could help the Cats land a coveted top 10 target in the 2024 recruiting class over a rival. Ya love to see it.
