Kentucky ties all-time college basketball record for top-15 wins in a season

In his first season at Kentucky, Mark Pope has done something just two other coaches in the history of college basketball have done. With yet another ranked victory, the Wildcats have tied the all-time record for most wins against AP Top 15 competition with eight.
The updated list of teams to accomplish the feat:
- Duke (1978-79)
- Indiana (1992-93)
- Kentucky (2024-25)
That’s it.
“If you can come to Kentucky and you can do something all-time at the University of Kentucky as a team — like, all-time at Kentucky? When you think about all the people that roll through here,” Pope told KSR after the win. “For them, for this group to hold that record is just insane. And then in the history of the game of college basketball, for them to be tied? It’s great for these guys, man. It’s a special group.”
The Wildcats started their historic run with a 77-72 win over No. 6 Duke, followed by a 90-89 win over No. 7 Gonzaga, a 106-100 win over No. 6 Florida, a 95-90 win at No. 14 Mississippi State, an 81-69 win over No. 11 Texas A&M, a 78-73 win at No. 8 Tennessee, a 75-64 win over No. 5 Tennessee, and now, a 91-83 win at No. 15 Missouri.
Not bad for a first-year coach in Lexington.
