The hero of the 2022 SEC Tournament has found a new home in Texas.

Dre’Una Edwards announced on Wednesday night that she will transfer to the Baylor Bears for the 2022-23 season. The 6-foot-2 forward spent the last three seasons with Kentucky Women’s Basketball but ultimately decided to transfer following the completion of the 2021-22 season. Edwards, a rising redshirt senior, began her college career at Utah, where she was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, before coming to Lexington.

Edwards had been trending toward landing with Baylor for about a week now after she visited the campus alongside Missouri transfer Aijha Blackwell, who is considered one of the top transfers on the market this offseason along with Edwards.

Edwards was arguably the best player for Utah during her freshman season in 2018-19 before suffering a torn ACL near the end of the year. She eventually transferred to Kentucky where she sat out the 2019-20 season as a redshirt due to both her injury and the NCAA transfer rules that were enforced at the time. During her two seasons playing as Wildcat, Edwards quickly became one of the team’s stars alongside Rhyne Howard, the eventual No. 1 pick in the 2022 WNBA Draft.

As a redshirt sophomore in 2020-21, Edwards averaged 9.7 points and 6.1 rebounds on 46.4 percent shooting from the floor. But as a redshirt junior in 2021-22, she established herself as one of the SEC’s premier players, averaging 16.8 points and 8.4 rebounds per contest on 52.1 percent shooting overall. Edwards’ time at Kentucky was highlighted by her game-winning 3-pointer in the 2022 SEC Tournament title game against South Carolina.

Edwards initially entered her name into the transfer portal on March 25.
