The Kentucky defense lost its top three EDGE players from the 2024 season. The room needs to be completely rebuilt. Brad White has already successfully recruited one from the transfer portal, USC’s Sam Greene, but he needs more. The Cats have some competition for their top remaining target.

KSR previously reported that Sam Houston State EDGE Chris Murray is scheduled to arrive in Lexington Dec. 20 for an official visit. On Monday afternoon, ESPN’s Max Olson shared that Murray will also be taking trips to Nebraska and Missouri. Murray was in Starkville last week to visit Mississippi State.

If you keep up with the NFL Draft, you’re well aware of how top-notch EDGE players are valued on rosters. Kentucky needs a pass rusher and Murray has been a productive one.

Last fall he earned First-Team All-C-USA honors for Sam Houston State after tallying 34 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles. The 6-foot-3, 255-pounder is ranked as the thirteenth-best available defensive lineman in the portal, according to On3.

Murray has two years of eligibility remaining. He started his career at TCU where he was a member of the team that went to the 2022 CFB Playoff National Championship Game. That’s where there is a connection to Kentucky.

Remember that visit to Mississippi State I referred to earlier? He made that trip to Starkville with Landyn Watson, the linebacker who announced on Saturday that he’s transferring from Marshall to Kentucky. Watson and Murray were teammates together at TCU and Watson tells KSR+ that he’s doing what he can to make it happen again.

“I’m really close with him, so I have to get him here. He has to be a Wildcat,” Watson told Jacob Polacheck. “We started something. We’ve got to finish it.”
