UAB wide receiver Fred Farrier III became the 7th scholarship transfer to join Kentucky’s program this offseason when the American Athletic Transfer committed to the Wildcats on Sunday. Add in Georgia Souther quarterback transfer Beau Allen and the Wildcats are up to eight total transfer additions. Mark Stoops and his coaching staff have put together one of the best transfer hauls in college football.

As the winter portal window closed earlier this week and mid-year transfers took their final visits over the weekend, we are now starting to see transfer class hauls take shape. Kentucky is just outside the top 10 in On3’s latest transfer portal team rankings.

  1. Louisville (20 transfers)
  2. Colorado (19 transfers)
  3. Ole Miss (12 transfers)
  4. Syracuse (10 transfers)
  5. Missouri (8 transfers)
  6. NC State (10 transfers)
  7. SMU (11 transfers)
  8. Florida State (6 transfers)
  9. Wisconsin (10 transfers)
  10. Washington (7 transfers)
  11. Kentucky (8 transfers)
  12. California (9 transfers)
  13. South Carolina (14 transfers)
  14. Boston College (8 transfers)
  15. Arkansas (12 transfers)
  16. Purdue (14 transfers)
  17. UCF (10 transfers)
  18. Notre Dame (6 transfers)
  19. Nebraska (3 transfers)
  20. TCU (15 transfers)
  21. Texas Tech (11 transfers)
  22. West Virginia (7 transfers)
  23. Virginia (8 transfers)
  24. Texas (3 transfers)
  25. Oklahoma (9 transfers)

The Wildcats trail only Ole Miss and Missouri in the SEC. In the first portal window, Kentucky added a former All-American at off-ball linebacker (Jamon Dumas-Johnson), three wide receivers (Raymond Cottrell, Fred Farrier II, Ja’Mori Maclin), a potential plug-and-play transfer at guard (Jalen Farmer), and new starters at quarterback (Brock Vandagriff) and tailback (Chip Trayanum).

Stoops’ staff addressed some big needs, but the work is not done yet.

When the transfer portal re-opens in the spring, expect Kentucky to take a look at adding help at offensive tackle and cornerback. Roster attrition could also lead to some more transfer additions at other positions. Roster-building is a very fluid process in modern college football and flexibility is required. Expect some new players to join the roster after spring practice.

Recruiting never stops.
