Kentucky Transfer Portal Target Richie Saunders Absolutely SMOKED Kansas

Kansas got cooked. It wasn’t your typical loss on the road in conference play. The Jayhawks were roasted over an open flame in Provo until they were well done. Richie Saunders is one of the primary culprits behind one of the most embarrassing losses in the history of Kansas basketball.
The team ranked No. 1 in the preseason polls just lost for the third time in four games. A 12-point loss to Kansas State was bad enough. BYU beat Kansas 91-57.
It’s just the second time Bill Self has lost a Big 12 game by 30+ points. According to ESPN Stats and Info, BYU became the first team in the last seven seasons to have a 35-point lead over Kansas. It’s the worst loss in program history as a ranked team against an unranked opponent.
The guy who killed the Hawks almost traded his BYU uniform for a Kentucky one this offseason.
Richie Saunders led BYU with 22 points on 9-13 shooting, including four made three-pointers. He is a Top 10 scorer in the Big 12 and leads the Cougs, who are currently fifth in the league standings, with 15.2 points per game. The 6-foot-4 junior wingman is shooting 50.9% from the floor and 42.9% from three.

Those numbers would’ve been really nice to see at Kentucky, especially when you see three guards on the bench with injuries. There was a time when it looked like Saunders was the most likely player to follow Mark Pope from BYU to Kentucky. He was an ideal fit in Lexington as a scoring wing/sixth man. He took an official visit to Lexington that appeared to go well. In fact, there was a belief that he quietly committed during his visit, with predictions rolling in for a transfer to Kentucky.
Unfortunately, fate had other plans and he decided to stay in Provo. Instead of leaning on Richie Saunders with a shorthanded backcourt during a difficult stretch of SEC play, he’s filling it up for BYU and embarrassing Kansas in ways we’ve never seen before.
