Kentucky triumphs against Georgia, 84-55, following two straight losses

You wouldn’t know Kentucky Women’s Basketball lost two games in a row for the first time this season based on the way the ‘Cats played against the Georgia Bulldogs. On Sunday, Kentucky got back on track after falling to Ole Miss and No. 3 Texas, with a xx-xx win over Georgia at Memorial Coliseum.
While Georgia’s Trinity Turner put points on the scoreboard first, Kentucky’s offense went full throttle. The ‘Cats quickly forced a Georgia timeout after a 7-0 run in the first quarter. There was no slowing down from there. Amelia Hassett opened for Kentucky with a three-pointer, already scoring more points than she did in those two games against Ole Miss and Texas. She finished the first quarter 3-3 from the perimeter with nine points. Georgia Amoore finished the first quarter in double-digits with 10, only one point away from one of the biggest milestones of her career.
Just a few minutes into the second quarter, Amoore did something only three other D1 basketball players have ever done. She became the fourth player in history to score 2300+ points and have 800+ assists. After Sunday’s game, she boasts 2,310 points and 828 assists. Heading into the half, Amoore was the only Wildcat in double-digits, but scoring was consistent across the board. Hassett finished the half with nine points, Teonni Key finished with eight, and Dazia Lawrence added five.
To start the third, Kentucky and Georgia went back and forth without a score until Mia Woolfolk made a layup off of a turnover by Key. It was another two minutes without a made shot, but Amelia Hassett ended that streak with a fadeaway jumper. It was a slow quarter offensively, especially considering Kentucky sent Georgia to the free throw line four times.

Clara Strack kicked things off in the fourth quarter with a pair of made free throws to give Kentucky a 24-point edge over Georgia. Despite a slower first half for the center, she picked things up toward the end. Strack finished with 14 points on 5-13 (38%) from the field, and six rebounds. Dazia Lawrence finished near perfect from the field, shooting 5-6 (83.3%) and 3-4 from three in only 22 minutes of play.
Up next, the Wildcats face Missouri on Thursday, Feb. 20, at 7:00 p.m. EST. Kentucky’s second-to-last road game of the regular season can be streamed on the SEC Network+.
