Kentucky's Tyler Bell named SEC Freshman of the Week

Kentucky shortstop Tyler Bell was named SEC Freshman of the Week on Monday after a monster series at Texas A&M this past weekend.
Bell was an extremely hard out for the Aggies pitching staff, as he went 8-13 at the plate with three doubles, a home run and seven RBI over the three-game span. He boosted his season batting average to .347, which now ranks fifth in the conference among freshmen.
“Tyler Bell looked like the highly touted freshman we all thought he’d be coming into the season,” D1Baseball’s Kendall Rogers tweeted out Sunday night. “He had a fantastic series for UK Baseball.”

It’s been a strong first season of college baseball so far for Bell, who was selected with the No. 66 pick in the 2024 MLB Draft but did not sign. His .347 batting average and five home runs rank second on the team behind teammate Cole Hage, but his 10 doubles and 31 RBI lead all Wildcat batters. He has reached base safely in every game and has 11 multi-hit games this season.
Along with the SEC Freshman of the Week nod, Bell was also named one of College Baseball Central’s four “Southern Fried Baseball” Players of the Week.
Look for these honors to be the first of many over his Kentucky career.
