The Cats have won seven of their eight games since they were tabbed as the No. 11 national seed in the midseason projections. Kentucky has never been a top-eight seed since the tournament expanded to 64 teams in 1999.
Kentucky is paired with No. 2 Arizona, No. 3 UIC (Nick Lopez‘s former school), and No. 4 Bowling Green. If the Cats could win the Lexington Regional for the second consecutive season, Kentucky Proud Park would host the program’s first ever Super Regional.
There are currently three other SEC teams within the top eight seeds, including No. 1 national seed Texas A&M, No. 2 national seed Arkansas, and No. 6 national seed Tennessee. No. 15 national seed South Carolina is also projected to host a Regional.

Five other SEC teams are also projected to make the Tournament in Mississippi State (Clemson Region), Vanderbilt (Durham Region), Georgia (Tallahassee Region), Florida (Chapel Hill Region), Alabama (Charlottesville Region).
10 out of 14 SEC teams are projected to make the Big Dance. Reigning champion LSU is currently not in the field, which would mark the third consecutive season the reigning champion failed to make the NCAA Tournament the following season (’21 Mississippi State & ’22 Ole Miss).
The No. 3 ranked Cats will face their toughest challenge to date this season this weekend, as No. 4 Tennessee comes to town for a massive top-five clash. With a sweep of the Vols, Kentucky would match the best start to SEC play in conference history (17-1).
