For several reasons, Kentucky‘s 82-61 win over Vanderbilt was a lot of fun. One, Kentucky avenged its January loss to the Commodores while dodging a damaging hit to the Wildcats’ tournament resume with only five games remaining in the regular season. Winning the game by 21 points made the night even sweeter.

Several individual performances also stood out, from Collin Chandler’s breakout game to Amari Williams’ perfect night from the field and the line and Andrew Carr’s return to form. Kentucky’s defense in the second half was also promising for the future. The Wildcats held Vanderbilt to only 21 second-half points.

Also, the duration of the game wasn’t excruciatingly long, like most of the other games on the schedule this season. Even with Pat Adams in the building, Kentucky settled the score with Vanderbilt in under two hours. The game’s run time was officially listed as one hour and 55 minutes, marking the first Kentucky game under two hours since the win over Colgate on December 11. Every other SEC game and many non-conference games ran more than two hours long, including three games over two and a half hours.

Kentucky’s average game duration

Upon further review, KSR found that Kentucky-Vanderbilt was the fifth-fastest game all season, behind only the early season blowouts against Bucknell, Lipscomb, Jackson State, and Colgate. The 21 other games lasted at least two hours.

The average run time for Kentucky games this season is two hours and 13 minutes, with SEC games lasting a little longer at two hours and 17 minutes. Still, ESPN carves out two-hour windows for its games, which is why it’s not uncommon to miss the first few minutes, like Kentucky’s recent trip to Texas last Saturday.
