Kentucky Volleyball wins ninth straight; Grome, DeLeye earn SEC accolades

It’s been a huge week for Kentucky Volleyball. On Wednesday, Kentucky won its ninth straight SEC match, this time a 3-0 sweep over Mississippi State. Now, the ‘Cats are 12-2 in SEC play, further boosting the chance to earn their eighth SEC Championship in a row.
Kentucky also added three new commits to the 2025 roster. Setter Kassie O’Brien (Katy, Texas), defensive specialist Trinity Ward (Louisville, Ky.), and outside hitter Georgia Watson (Huntley, Illinois) all signed to play for the ‘Cats next season.
“This class has great character, great passion and the desire to be great players,” UK head coach Craig Skinner said in a release on Nov. 13. “They are perfect people and athletes to blend into the program! They fill our positions of need and will compete to play right away. We can’t wait to welcome them here on campus in January!”
Plus, two Kentucky players earned SEC accolades yet again. Emma Grome earned Co-Setter of the Week while Brooklyn DeLeye won Co-Offensive Player of the Week. Grome tallied a season-high 58 assists on 66 team kills in a 3-1 win over Georgia on Nov. 17. She also added four blocks, tying her SEC high this year and a pair of aces.

DeLeye set a school record against Georgia with a program-high 30 kills in Sunday’s win. She hit 37.7% with only four errors on 69 swings. In addition, she added eight digs and became the first player to record 30 kills in a four-set match. She’s also the second Kentucky player of all time to record 30 kills in a match of any length. Leah Edmond set the previous four-set record in 2018 with 26 kills against Missouri. Edmond also hit 30 kills in a five-set match against Florida in 2019.
With only two regular-season matches remaining, DeLeye is looking to be 2024’s SEC Player of the Year, and the team is looking to win their eighth consecutive SEC title. The ‘Cats take on Arkansas on Sunday, Nov. 24 at 4:00 p.m. EST. It’s finally Senior Day, and the game can be streamed on the SEC Network. Then for the season finale, Kentucky battles Missouri at 7:00 p.m. EST in Columbia on Wednesday, Nov. 27.
