Kentucky vs. Florida Box Score: A Game of Runs
Back and forth and back and forth. The pendulum took a few wild swings on Saturday at Rupp Arena. Fortunately, it ended with Kentucky on top in a 106-100 victory to open SEC play.
The Wildcats trailed Florida for the first 12 minutes of the game. Then we saw the first of a few huge runs.
Kentucky went on a 16-0 run, with Otega Oweh scoring 10 points in that stretch that ultimately finished with a 21-3 margin for the Cats. Florida went on a run to tie the game, then Lamont Butler helped Kentucky close the half on a 12-2 run for a 10-point advantage.
Florida had the first run of the second half, finishing +9 over the first two TV timeouts to shrink the Kentucky lead to one. If you blinked, you missed Kentucky’s response: a 10-0 run.
Koby Brea hit three three-pointers to extend the Kentucky lead to nine. It felt like the dagger, but Florida had one more 7-0 run before Lamont Butler scored five straight points, giving the Cats enough cushion before free throw time.
Rebounding and Second Chance Points
Florida built its early lead on second-chance points. Seven of the first ten were from the offensive glass. The Gators finished the game with 31 second-chance points on 15 offensive rebounds. Florida rebounded 55.5% of their misses.
