How many people watched Kentucky kick the snot out of Florida? A LOT. Over two million, in fact. The ratings are out for Week 5 of college football and Kentucky’s 33-14 victory over the then-No. 22 Florida Gators was No. 8 on the list, with 2.32 million tuning in for Ray Davis‘ historic performance.

The only other noon kick to top it was USC vs. Colorado, which took first place with 7.24 million viewers on FOX. Georgia‘s scare vs. Auburn was No. 2, with 6.4 million viewers on CBS. The LSU vs. Ole Miss thriller was fifth, with 3.72 million viewers, ESPN’s top game of the week, followed by Alabama vs. Mississippi State in the late night slot.

Kentucky vs. Georgia one of the most anticipated games of Week 6

The ratings for the Florida game were good, but the numbers for Saturday’s game vs. Georgia will almost certainly be higher, especially if Kentucky turns in the type of performance we hope. The No. 20 Cats vs. the No. 1 Dawgs is one of the most anticipated games of Week 6 not only because of the SEC East and College Football Playoff implications but both teams’ performances in Week 5. Kentucky overperformed vs. Florida, while Georgia underperformed vs. Auburn, setting up a monster primetime showdown.

Pat Forde listed Kentucky vs. Georgia as one of his top-five games of the week, giving the Bulldogs a slight edge.

Georgia 24, Kentucky 19. Chalk up another close call for the Bulldogs, who have beaten South Carolina and Auburn by a combined 17 points and trailed in both games for more time than they led. But Brock Bowers, Sanford Stadium noise and enough defensive playmakers (an SEC-leading eight interceptions) keep Georgia unbeaten.

In previewing this weekend’s games, Greg McElroy said he’s expecting a “war” between the hedges on Saturday night.

“Georgia kind of licking their wounds a little bit, next week is going to be a war against Kentucky. Because what Kentucky did to Florida was downright domination,” McElroy said on Always College Football. “Defensive line looks like they’re back, it looks like to an extent, the defense which we thought they were good…they’ve always been solid in the front seven…but it’s pretty amazing to me when you look at Kentucky and knowing that we didn’t really know a lot about them before yesterday, that team is built so similarly to a Georgia.”

Can’t wait. Saturday, 7 p.m., ESPN, Sanford Stadium.
