The final game on Kentucky‘s 2024 football schedule is the big one: the Governor’s Cup. Louisville is in town for a noon kickoff at Kroger Field, hoping to touch the Governor’s Cup trophy for the first time since 2017.

The Wildcats have other plans, with intentions of keeping the rivalry hardware in Lexington for another year. Kentucky will debut a new quarterback against the Cardinals to help its chances as a home underdog on Senior Day.

Before Kentucky’s biggest rivalry game begins, more about the game ahead. But first, a message from today’s sponsor. Go Cats. Ls down.

LOUISVILLE

Five Pregame Storylines

  1. 36th running of the Governor’s Cup: In-state rivals Kentucky and Louisville will meet for the 36th time today. The Wildcats hold a 20-15 lead in the all-time series.
  2. Kentucky trying to keep its streak alive: After Louisville won five straight from 2011-2015, Kentucky snapped the streak when Lamar Jackson fumbled in 2016, then won six of seven, including the last five in a row.
  3. Cutter Boley: True freshman Cutter Boley is in for Brock Vandagriff as Kentucky’s starting quarterback after Boley showed potential in the second half at Texas. Boley, a Kentucky native, is the first rookie QB to ever start on the Kentucky side in the Governor’s Cup.
  4. Cold weather ahead: The forecast calls for cold temperatures around noon in Lexington (30-35 degrees) for the home finale. Bundle up if you’re going, and we’ll soon see how it impacts the game, if at all.
  5. Senior Day: It is Senior Day in Lexington. Before the game, Kentucky will recognize 17 of its players before their last game in Kroger Field.

Uniform Combination

The Wildcats will wear all-black uniforms with the black matte helmet in the Governor’s Cup.
