Kentucky vs. Southern Miss Weather Update: Have a rain plan for tailgating

If you’re going to Kroger Field tomorrow for the season-opener vs. Southern Miss, pack a poncho and cross your fingers. The forecast for tomorrow afternoon and evening includes scattered thunderstorms. On the one hand, the rain could cut through the disgusting heat we’ve endured this week; on the other, if there’s lightning in the area, that could mean a weather delay. Plus, you’ll get wet.

According to The Weather Channel, there is a chance of scattered storms between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. (this is changing by the minute). Tomorrow won’t be a washout, but as the cold front rolls through, there could be some pop-up storms, so have a rain plan if you’re tailgating. Hopefully, by the time kickoff rolls around (7:55 p.m. ET), the skies will be clear above Kroger Field. The forecasted high for tomorrow is 86 degrees and 79 around kickoff.

We all may hate the heat, but Mark Stoops told reporters last night that he actually welcomed it this week.

“It’s been nice to be challenged with this weather because we haven’t had this type of extreme heat and it was really good. We had a complete full Tuesday in full pads and that’ll be the norm and it was extremely hot and challenging for them. It was good in a lot of ways to mentally challenge them both Tuesday and Wednesday.”
